September is the last journal for this year. I did not include it in the group for Houston, because it seems to clash with the rest. I stepped out of my comfort zone for this one. My son could not believe that he saw his mother painting fabric in shades of bright orange! I sunprinted the fabric using an assortment of ferns, oak, maple, and scented geranium leaves. The brown maple and fern leaves are cut from another sunprinted fabric done in browns (also not ususlly me), and appliqued on using vartiegated thread along the veins. All of the quilting was done with the same variegated thread, that I decided I do not like on the bright orange, but I guess that is the purpose of these journals- to try stuff to see what works and what doesn't. The "silk" oak leaves were added by stitching the veins, and the flowers were hot glued on using stone chip beads for centers. The butterfly was cut out of another fabric, then fused to gold flower petals, then stitched onto the quilt. the edges are finished with a stitch on my sewing machine. This one is definitely a step out of the box for me!
