This quilt is one of those that chose the way it wanted to look. I had planned to end up with a more contemporary look, and it ended up looking more antique. I began piecing the background by fusing many different ivory fabrics to small to medium batting pieces, then satin stitched the pieces together. I then began arranging the flower appliques, and trialed the arrangement over the background to see if I liked it, and found it had an antique feel to it. I had planned to "glitz" the flowers up using a sparkle paint, but that was out. I painted the leaves on a piece of cotton, and accented them with wax pastels before adding them to the arrangement. I then used a green tone on tone fabric for the borders. Free motion quilting enhances the appliques, and an ivy-vine like design is used to quilt the background and borders using coordinating threads.
